We’ve picked out our favorite plant gifts for dad that are appropriate for all types of dads.
Plant Gifts for Dad
Dad on the go
Sure, your dad would appreciate a plant but doesn’t have a ton of time to dedicate to taking care of it. He’s a busy guy and may forget the occasional watering and that’s totally ok! Get him an easy-care plant that looks great in the home and is low maintenance. ZZ plants are known for their easy care and are forgivable to neglect. They enjoy bright, indirect light, but they also can live happily in low light. They thrive on very little water, similar to succulents and cactuses. Once the soil has completely dried out, it is time to water again.
Work from home dad
Does the dad in your life rock a home office space that could use a little sprucing up in the form of live plant decor? It’s been more important than ever to make sure that your Zoom background looks put together. Plants are also said to reduce stress and increase productivity, what better to surround yourself with during the daily work grind! Sansevieria (Snake Plants) are great office plants for beginners because they provide all the benefits of indoor plants with very little maintenance. They can live in low light and need very minimal watering. Only water lightly once the soil has completely dried out. Their tall, stately appearance will make a striking background addition on his next virtual call. Jade plants are also fitting for dad’s work desk as they are symbols of luck and prosperity, sure to bring positive Feng Shui into the office space. As a succulent, they do best with bright light and need minimal watering.
Chef dad
If your dad loves to cook, combine his enthusiasm for the kitchen with the awesomeness of plants. There are certain plant varieties that work great in a kitchen setting. Herbs are a no-brainer to gift to dad for the kitchen. Not only can they add to the decor but they can be added to his favorite cooked dishes! A not so obvious, but excellent choice is Aloe Vera. The Aloe Vera plant is a smart addition to the kitchen not only because is it a striking succulent plant to look at, but it also is great to have on hand after an inevitable kitchen burn. For cooling relief, cut a lower leaf off of the plant and split lengthwise to access the gel interior that can be applied directly on a burn. Aloe Vera likes bright, indirect light and only needs watered every few weeks.
Coffee loving dad
Fact: many dads love coffee. Also a fact: dads can only own so many coffee mugs! If you’ve gifted dad a coffee mug one too many times, consider switching things up and gifting dad his own Coffee Plant. With their dark green, textured leaves, coffee plants make attractive additions to the home. Now before you get dad’s hopes up, he probably won’t be harvesting his morning cup of joe from this houseplant, unfortunately. It takes a few years (up to 3-5) for a Coffee Plant to grow mature enough to produce flowers, and conditions need to be optimal for the development of the berries (which contain the seeds or “coffee beans” as we know them). Hopefully, the novelty and thought behind the plant will be appreciated by the coffee-loving dad in your life!
